Annual Eye Checkup

I had my annual diabetic eye exam recently.

It went great. Nothing to report. After 25+ years of diabetes, and questionable control, "nothing to report" is music to my ears.

I partially feel like I've dodged a bullet - my control has never been that great, but I feel like it's been exceptionally poor lately. I was half expecting to have serious damage that required immediate laser surgery!!

It also partially went as expected, mostly because I've never had even a hint of problems with my eyes.

Can I expect it to be that way forever? Probably not, but one can hope!

So, move on from here with good news, and renewed motivation to get my act together!

Great news, Scott.
Just don't take it lightly that it will stay that way forever. Seriously, I've been a type 1 diabetic for 27+ years, and have had "less than perfect" control for what I'd imagine would be most of them.

I remember the feelings of invinsibility I would have after clean bills of health all those previous years. As little hints of complications have started to rear their ugly heads, however, I'm kicking my self (hard) for not being more diligent.

Keep up the effort! It's worth it. Trust me.

Congratulations Scott! I know the feeling: I feel a huge relief every time my eye doctor gives "thumbs up" at the emd of his inspection.
