Waiting for the Doc...

I'm the middle person.

A lady in front of me who says she has an 8:15 appointment with the same doctor I am to see. At 8:15.

The guy behind me, I overhear, is also scheduled with the same doctor, at 8:15 too.

So that makes three of us. Wow -- this doctor must be pretty good if he can see all of us at the same time. In different rooms.

So how do YOU spend all that time we spend waiting for the doctors?

Total nap time: about 35 minutes.

LMAO!!!

After I locate all of the "HIGHLIGHTS" magazine and learn all about manners from "Goofus and Gallant" I also end up crashing out.

That picture is awesome BTW.

:) So funny!

I waited for over an hour to see the doctor on Monday afternoon. A room full of pregnant, unhappy women is a sorry sight! Thankfully I took the entire afternoon off work, so I just enjoyed some magazines and did a word find puzzle!

I think the expression is "hurry up and wait." :)

My endo is too cool to do that.
I was reading in Mom's Cancer that doctors' waiting rooms sometimes have puzzles for everybody to jointly put together and I think that that's a great idea.

My dermatologist's office schedules 4 patients per hour and all are given the same time, on the hour. They explained it to me and it's first come first served. So if I need to be out quickly, I get there early. Otherwise, I know I'll be the last at -:45. It works because they let us know the procedure.

My clinic says, "oh, you can come at l, l:10, 1:20 or 1:30". I replied "I thought the appointments were supposed to be 20 minutes each". "They are - this is just the way we schedule them."
........(Do the math sister).
I knit. Then I answer questions about what it is I am knitting. Then I have people look at me and say "oh, I could never do that." Then I put the knitting away and stare blankly.

One time at the ortho clinic an elderly couple had come from outstate MN to see a specialist. They were supposed to fill out a bunch of questions on a clipboard and both got very confused so I decided to help them. Question #1 - When did the symptoms begin? The man said "musta been 1945 or 46, when I fell off the barn roof". He then proceeded to tell me the entire story of his life on the farm, and we never did get to the next question.

I always bring a book.

While I often find overscheduling annoying, I really can't blame endos for doing it. Their compensation is so low compared to anything else that endos who truly care about their patients can end up bankrupt. That's why no one wants to go into it and we can end up with dinosaurs.

I watch old episodes of "The Office" on my iPod. I usually take time off of work to go, so I mentally prepare myself for it, so as to enjoy the waiting game (hah, sometimes).

In Taiwan, you don't need an appointment to see a doctor; you just register and if you're early enough, you don't really wait long. Granted, the doc wants more money each day so it's a battle to get him/her to spend more than 5 minutes with you, but I like not having to wait 3 months for an appointment, despite my other trials with the health care system here (like the fact that their universal health care doesn't cover strips or pump supplies). :(

BTW, I've been reading your blog for a while now, and have deciced to finally comment. I lived in MN for 4 years in college (Golden Gopher), and miss Mpls. a lot! :)

What I Did While Waiting At Yesterday's Endo Appointment:

1. Fret.
2. Skim through trashy celeb magazine.
3. Fret.
4. Tap toes and hum along with lame-o easy listening radio song playing in the waiting room.
5. Check blood sugar.
6. Fret.

But honestly, the appointment wasn't that bad, and she popped in to see me almost immediately.

WAKE UP!

It's a good thing you don't snore or talk in your sleep. That could provide for an embarassing situation.

I call my doctor's office 2 hrs early & they tell me how far behind he is running. And so I end up going late. I still end up waiting for around 3 hours. Pathetic. But, I'm beginning to get used to it. I take a book & my mp3 player. It passes the time.

Go on Monster.com, and look for an Endo job. They are very well paid, and tend to overbook and disregard their patient's time. Time to find a new one.
