Damn, what a day!

My two year old daughter is sick, and was running one heck of a fever last night (103.1). Needless to say she was very uncomfortable, and didn't sleep much. I think I MIGHT have gotten a grand total of about 45 minutes of sleep all night.

So, I'm tired as hell today. Toss in some stress from work, some stress from a bit of freelance work I'm doing, and a low blood sugar to start things off at breakfast, and you've got a recipe for one hell of a bad day in terms of eating and blood sugar control.

I don't even want to THINK about how many calories I've consumed today...

I can tell you that it does not feel good - my body just feels yucky from eating crap all day.

I wish I could keep my focus strong and be disciplined enough to make it through days like today without all that extra eating.

Bleah, sounds like an awful day indeed. And on top of everything else, you get to deal with the guilt for eating what you ate! I believe there are times when the best we can do is to try to be compassionate with ourselves over those "failings." In other words, now and then you gotta give yourself a pass, yes? Just as you would for your child if she had a horrible day and did some things that weren't ideal behavior. Hope you and the kiddo are both feeling better.

Sorry about your day, Scott. I agree with Violet, though--sometimes, you just have to throw up your hands and say, hey, I did the best I could under the circumstances.

My son had a really awful day on Valentine's after consuming a massive amount of "simple" carbs at the school party. Although he injected for it and we counted correctly (he was in range within 3 hours), he was up to 400 at one point. Well--we learned from it.

Anyway, I just wanted to say "hi"--I stumbled upon your site via a few links--well, I don't really know HOW I got here, but here I am.

My son was diagnosed in July 2004 at age 7, in severe DKA (near coma). We are doing better now ('twould be hard to be doing any worse than we were on that day).

I will definitely be back, as I find it fascinating to read about D from an adult's point of view and to experience things that my son can't yet verbalize.

Well, stop by and say hello if you like. I have a blog that is linked below and I write about D from time to time, as well as writing and publishing. (I have a novel coming out with St. Martin's Press in May.)

Take care,
Martha
